Bernie Marsden
Bernie Marsden
After a 30 plus year absence from the North American music scene, BERNIE MARSDEN, co-founder of the band WHITESNAKE and co-writer of the number one hit "Here I Go Again", is bringing his music and creative blues/rock guitar playing to Rams Head On Stage for his first and only area appearance.

Spanning a career of more than 40 years Bernie’s journey as an artist began with humble beginnings in the town of Buckingham, a small town in central UK. Born to working class parents a young Bernie soon found himself drawn to a new wave of music being created and inspired by The Beatles. With strong influences by some of the original Blues players it became clear early on that their inspiration would lead to a life long love affair with the guitar and traditional Blues.

After gaining experience with local groups a big break came when an audition landed him a spot in the band UFO. The friendships made there were instrumental in landing a position in WILD TURKEY, a band that opened for many big names including Supertramp, Black Sabbath and Frank Zappa. With his reputation as an accomplished guitarist and vocalist growing, an introduction to Cozy Powell led to a stint with his band, COZY POWELLS HAMMER, whose hit “Dancing With The Devil” was topping the charts at the time. Session work further enhanced an already growing reputation and when HAMMER disbanded Bernie found himself joining BABE RUTH where they were signed to a contract with Capital/BMI.

Cozy Powell heard that DEEP PURPLE members Ian Paice and Jon Lord were looking for new guitarist for their new band and he recommended Bernie who then joined PAICE ASHTON LORD. That led to an introduction to the former DEEP PURPLE frontman, David Coverdale. One jam session later and they had found a musical connection. That began a collaboration that would produce some of the most iconic rock classics of the 80’s like, “Fool For Your Lovin”, “Is This Love”, and the worldwide number one hit, “Here I Go Again”. That song has sold more than 20 million copies earned Bernie an ASCAP Songwriter of the Year award and continues to be one of the most recognizable songs ever written. It has appeared in everything from a Broadway play to TV and the movies and continues to enjoy steady play on radio and social media.

Bernie has been busy producing, writing and performing for audiences worldwide since his departure from WHITESNAKE. In addition to multiple band and solo projects he has appeared with THE ALLMAN BROTHERS at their famed Beacon Theater shows, sat in with JOE BONAMASSA, rocked with RINGO STARR and HIS ALL STARR BAND, guested with WARREN HAYNES and recorded with JACK BRUCE on his final album.

With credits on over a hundred albums to date Bernie took to the studio for the first time in 15 years to record His latest album “Shine.” It was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and includes special guests JOE BONAMASSA and IAN PAICE, as well as a reunion with DAVID COVERDALE, revisiting one of the first songs they wrote together entitled, “Trouble.” Since its release the album has seen the top of the iTunes blues chart and won critical acclaim.

Not limited to just playing the blues, Bernie has written a book entitled, “Where’s My Guitar” that chronicles his life and musical journey. He has also produced a made for TV film documentary entitled, “A Day In The Delta.” It examines blues history from the point of view of an Englishman’s fascination with what is considered Ground Zero for the Blues, the Mississippi Delta.

PRS Guitars created a signature model Bernie Marsden SE. It was inspired by one of the most famous 1959 Les Pauls’ in existence and part of Bernie’s cherished guitar collection, nicknamed “The Beast”. It can be counted as one of the most successful SE guitars in PRS history.

Gibson Guitars followed by honoring “The Beast” in it’s Collector Series of famous burst guitars. With only 300 copies produced, the model sold out before they were built and it continues to be a valuable collector piece and one of the most popular in the series.

His imaginative blues guitar playing and song writing skills have made him one of the most enduring artists of a generation and garnered the admiration and respect of many of the top players in the business. Through it all he has always known, where he was going and mindful of where he’s been.
Only Road Band
ONLY ROAD BAND was a musical project that began when Rob Cass, acclaimed producer of Jack Bruce and Bernie Marsden’s latest albums, invited a group of Baltimore musicians to London for a recording session at the famed Abbey Road Studios.

ERIC SCOTT, whose accomplishments include multiple WAMMIE awards, TV and movie soundtrack credits heads up an all-star lineup. Eric has shared the stage with many notables including REO SPEEDWAGON and AARON NEVILLE and was part of a special event held at DAR Constitution Hall, where he sang backup for Roger Waters.

Eric’s latest soon to be released albums, “Peace Bomb” and the EP “Charm City Sessions” will no doubt add to an already impressive catalog of beautiful melodies and thought provoking lyrics.

Jazz Fusion guitarist CARL FILIPIAK joins the group to add his signature style. NBC Sports and Turner Broadcasting have featured his music for major TV events including the Olympics. With his latest album “What Now” Carl has easily lived up to his billing when described by JazzTimes as a “dazzlingly versatile guitarist.”

Adding to the exceptional lineup is keyboardist and vocalist, BRIAN SIMMS. Having won a Musician of the Year award in 2009, he is one of the most sought after session players in the Washington/Baltimore area. Rounding out this eclectic group are guitarist Ernie Lombardo, Chuck Thompson on acoustic guitar and on drums, Tom Lombardo.

The Abbey Road sessions were the basis for what became an album entitled, “LIVE IN TWO”. It includes several rock and blues favorites with fresh arrangements. Given the location, the addition of two Beatles titles from their ABBEY ROAD album seemed only appropriate.

The band is very pleased to reunite at Rams Head On Stage to recapture the excitement experienced during those sessions and to help showcase the unique blues guitar playing and extensive song catalog of Bernie Marsden.
