Artist Information
One of popular music’s most successful partnerships, Simon & Garfunkel’s music captured the emotions of the 1960s like no other. Paul Simon's intelligent, incisive and sometimes playful lyrics were wrapped in hauntingly beautiful melodies graced by Art Garfunkel’s angelic harmonies. The effect went straight to the listener's heart and left you with plenty to think on as you hummed along to Simons’ catchy hooks. Simon & Garfunkel’s 1966 smash hits Sounds of Silence, Homeward Bound and I Am a Rock were cornerstones of the emerging “folk -rock” sound. Their popularity soared, as did their artistic vision, when their songs including Mrs. Robinson and Scarborough Fair were featured prominently in the soundtrack to The Graduate. 1970’s Bridge Over Troubled Water album featuring The Boxer, Cecelia and The Only Living Boy in New York saw them sweeping the Grammy Awards and cementing their place in music history.
Newmyer Flyer Presents The Simon & Garfunkel Songbook finds 6 extraordinary singers and musicians performing all of the hits and beloved deep cuts from the fabled Simon & Garfunkel catalogue.
Heather Lloyd
Heather Aubrey Lloyd has travelled for two decades, playing anywhere that might make a good story: bait shops, biker weeks … even clothing-optional resorts. A recovering reporter whose love of the journey evolved into equally adventurous songwriting. Pat Wictor hails her “sing-me-the-phone-book” voice. “Janis Joplin meets Joni Mitchell,” says the Montgomery Caller. Comfortable in any genre, Lloyd blends folky finger-picked guitar with lyrical rhythms/hand percussion influenced by Baltimore's diverse music scene. Best known as co-front of ilyAIMY, Lloyd's solo efforts are gaining recognition: Falcon Ridge Folk Fest Most Wanted, National Women’s Music Fest Emerging Artist, No Depression-FreshGrass Finalist, and Top 4 Telluride Troubadour. She is also the 2019 Grand Prize Winner of the prestigious Bernard Ebb Songwriting Award. 2025 finds her back on her beloved road, releasing her second studio album, “Panic Room With A View,” and as regular guest vocalist for Grammy-nominated lute-rocker Ronn McFarlane as part of Ayreheart. Kipyn Martin
Kipyn Martin is an emerging Indie Folk singer-songwriter whose roots sink deep into the banks of the Shenandoah River. She has played festivals, concert halls, coffeehouses, and house concerts from New England to Texas. She has earned multiple Gold Awards in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest, and has previously been honored by the Washington Area Music Association with multiple WAMMIE nominations (Songwriter of the Year and Folk Contemporary Vocalist). In 2015 she won the WAMMIE for New Artist of the Year. In addition to songwriting, Kipyn holds a Master of Music in Composition and teaches private lessons in voice, guitar, piano, and songwriting. Currently one can find Kipyn performing in the DC/Baltimore areas. She is a dedicated tribute artist as well as performing songwriter. 2024 will see her paying tribute to Joni Mitchell as part of Joan & Joni with music partner Allison Shapira, as well as paying homage to Simon & Garfunkel as part of Newmyer Flyer's Bleecker Street. Tom Lofgren
Tom Lofgren like his older brother Nils, left Walter Johnson High School early in 1972 but unlike Nils who dropped out to chase his dream Tom had graduated ahead of schedule in order to join Nils band Grin on tour across the US and in the recording studio as rhythm guitarist, keyboard player and backing vocalist.
